Do you have a Verifone Vx520 credit card terminal?
Verifone Vx 520s and Vx 680s have been experiencing issues. The most common issue has been a rebooting loop. Is you Verifone Vx520 stuck rebooting? A rebooting loop means the vx 520 or vx 680 reboots and never stops at the sales Softpay and CommServer screen. In order to run transactions, one must activate the Softpay app by pressing F3. Pressing F3 in most cases or the correct corresponding “Fx” function key opens the sales menu for credit card processing. The reboot loop is happening across all processing platforms.
How does the Verifone Vx520 rebooting loop happen?
The reboot loop on a vx 520 or vx 680 begins in a normal process. The two most common causes are a power cycle or a restart. Normally, unplugging and plugging back into a power source after a power failure will reboot the terminal. However, if the reboot loop happens, “power cycling” or rebooting after a power failure will cause the Verifone Vx 520 to stay in the rebooting loop. The rebooting loop never allows the merchant to run a sale. Same can be said for a Vx 680. This article specifically addresses the Vx 520 rebooting loop fix.
How to fix a Verifone Vx520 stuck rebooting.
If you find your Verifone Vx520 stuck rebooting loop, here’s the fix. Click here and watch the video or follow the directions. By following the directions, one will stop the rebooting loop. Adding a few parameters including *DHEAP will stop the rebooting. Some merchants (not our processing clients) have reported this fix is unsuccessful. This can be due to improper adding of the parameters or their processor has a different fix for them. If the fix is unsuccessful, please call your processor directly to fix this expediently. The Bonus Fix
Once the rebooting loop has stopped, there is one more thing to fix. The Verifone Vx520s have a certificate which expires on 6/25/19. If the certificate is unsuccessfully updated or neglected to be updated, on June 25, 2019, the Vx520 will stop processing. Let’s get the bonus fix.
At the main screen, CommServer and Softpay, please pay attention to the Letters after Softpay. If the terminal screen says Softpay- FDMS, please call FD merchant services.

Watch out for a few things
We have heard from multiple merchants a few issues when they’ve called into their processor. Some processors are using this as an opportunity to sell a different piece of equipment to the merchant. May we suggest, keeping your Vx 520 and using it. Some processors have told their customers they must by a processor specific credit card terminal and the Vx 520 isn’t supported any longer. We submit to you, if you’ve heard this type of rhetoric, find a new provider of merchant services. Take some time and search the internet or get a referral from a trusted business source. The internet contains some good information. Be careful of the site from which you are getting the information. Many of the 3rd party review sites are either selling the leads or sharing in the revenue from their “preferred providers”.
